The
Navajo Nation Department of Justice is reviewing allegations of mismanagement at the
Shiprock Chapter in New Mexico.
Tribal members say chapter leaders have misused more than $1 million in funds. They say the chapter's bank account has gone from $820,000 in August 2009 to nearly nothing a year later.
The Office of White Collar Crime is looking into the claim. Chapter Vice President Donald Benally called the allegations politically motivated.
