National Indian Education Association meets for DC summit

The National Indian Education Association is holding its 15th annual legislative summit in Washington, D.C., next week.

The event begins Monday with the State of Native Education Address by NIEA President Quinton Roman Nose, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Attendees also will hear from William Mendoza, the director of White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education, and Charlie Rose, the former general counsel at the Department of Education.

On Tuesday, the meeting moves to Capitol Hill, with panel discussions at the Senate Indian Affairs Committee room in the Dirksen Building. Topics include the Native CLASS Act.

The summit ends on Wednesday.
