Judge awards custody of girl to her Navajo grandparents
A judge in Colorado approved an agreement that grants custody of a one-year-old girl to her Navajo Nation grandparents.
The agreement terminates the parental rights of the child's biological mother and father. The girl's father is Navajo.
As part of the agreement, Judge Pattie Swift will transfer the case to the Navajo Nation courts.
The tribe's lawyer said the case shows the success of the Indian
Child Welfare Act.
