California tribes donate $303K for governor's tax initiative

California tribes donated have donated $303,100 to help Gov. Jerry Brown (D) put a tax proposal on the November ballot.

The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians and the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians each donated $100,000, the largest of the tribal contributions to BROWN, TEACHERS, BUSINESS AND PUBLIC SAFETY, CALIFORNIANS TO PROTECT SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES AND PUBLIC SAFETY, A BALLOT MEASURE COMMITTEE SUPPORTED BY GOVERNOR JERRY. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians donated $25,000 while the California Tribal Business Alliance donated $75,000.

The tax proposal would temporarily raise income and sales taxes in order to prevent cuts in public education.
