The
Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is helping its members realize the dream of homeownership.
The tribe recently added another $500,000 to its housing program. The money will build six or seven new houses on the reservation.
"Housing and community growth on the Winnebago Reservation seems destined to continue at a rapid pace,'' Lance Morgan, the chief executive officer of
Ho-Chunk Inc., the tribe's economic development arm, told The Omaha World-Herald.
The program provides $50,000 in down payment assistance, which helps lower the cost of a new home. Other programs that the tribe also offers could raise the assistance level to $75,000.
