Sycuan Band gains support for its land-into-trust application

The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians won support for its land-into-trust application from the board of supervisors in San Diego County, California.

The tribe filed an application for about 1,357 acres. If approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the acquisition will triple the size of the tribe's land base.

The tribe has agreed to offset losses from property taxes for more than seven years and pay for road improvements, The San Diego Reader reported. The paper said the property generates $300,000 in tax revenues.
