Navajo Nation Supreme Court hears case at Yale law school

The Navajo Nation Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a special session at Yale Law School on Monday.

The justices heard Navajo Nation v. RJN Construction Management, Inc., Robert J. Nelson and The Home for Women and Children. The case involves land ownership and RJN Construction, a non-Indian company that nearly finished construction on a domestic violence center on the reservation.

The session gave law students a chance to see how tribal courts work. “One of the big things we’re trying to do is show students something they might not know about,” Joanne Williams, the co-chair of the Native American Law Students Association, told The Yale Daily News.
