Chickasaw man on track to serve as Oklahoma House speaker

T.W. Shannon, a member of the Chickasaw Nation, is slated to become the next speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Shannon was elected speaker designate by his fellow Republicans, The Oklahoman reported. He is due to take control of the chamber following the 2012 election, the paper said.

Republicans hold a 69-31 majority in the House so their action today virtually guarantees Shannon will get the post.
