No action from Supreme Court on Oneida Nation's land claim

For the third week in a row, U.S. Supreme Court has declined to take action on the long-running Oneida Nation land claim.

The justices this morning released another order list for its new October 2011 term. Oneida Nation v. Oneida County and US v. New York weren't on it.

"Our guess is that a Justice or two is writing a dissent to the denial of certiorari. At this point, that seems like the best conceivable outcome," Turtle Talk said in response.

The tribe is suing over 250,000 acres that were illegally taken by the state of New York. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals killed the claim and essentially said the tribe waited too long to sue.
