The
Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico held a primary election on Tuesday.
Incumbent President Mark Chino, who is seeking a fourth two-year term in office, will face Frederick Chino Sr., a former vice president, in the general election. Chino Sr. won 371 votes to Chino's 325 votes.
For vice president, Sandra Platero will face Vincent Hubbard Sr. Platero received 405 votes to Hubbard's 141 votes.
Tribal members also narrowed the field to eight candidates for four seats on the council. All of the candidates will proceed to the general election on November 1.
