Mohawk reservation used for marijuana and ecstasy smuggling
Thursday, September 29, 2011
The
St. Regis Mohawk Reservation
in New York is a hotbed of drug smuggling activity, according to the
Department of Justice
.
As much as 20 percent of the high-potency marijuana grown in Canada comes through the reservation, the
National Drug Intelligence Center
said in the
National Drug Threat Assessment 2010
. The report also said "multithousand- tablet quantities" of ecstasy and "multikilogram quantities" of cocaine cross the reservation.
The
National Drug Threat Assessment 2011
repeated the concerns about the reservation. However, this year's report wasn't as detailed, mentioning only "large quantities" of marijuana and ecstasy.
