Fawn Sharp, Quinault, is first woman elected ATNI president

Fawn R. Sharp, the chairwoman of the
Quinault Nation
of Washington, has been elected president of the
Affiliated Tribes of the Northwest Indians
.
Sharp is the first woman to lead the organization. She defeated Michael Finley, the chairman of the
Colville Confederated Tribes
, for the post.
“There was an open door today and we have made history,” Sharp said after her election September 21, Indian Country Today. “I believe this is a movement for our generation, and we’ll take our voice throughout the nation.”
ATNI represents 57 tribes n the Northwest.
