Larry Jones, artist from Onondaga Nation, passes away at 66

Larry Jones, a member of the Onondaga Nation of New York, died last week. He was 66.

Jones was an artist who was well known for his walking sticks, coffee tables and other works. He gave one of his sticks to president Bill Clinton.

“As an artist we were in the inner circle of friends,” Tracy Thomas told The Syracuse Post-Standard. “We were family. He was a fantastic wood-burner.”

Jones was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who retired from the Syracuse Police Department in 1989 after 20 years on the force, the paper reported.
