Chickasaw Nation takes over state tourism information center

The Chickasaw Nation has taken over operations of a tourism information center that was previously run by the state of Oklahoma.

The Thackerville Tourism Information Center is near the Texas border. Employees there will now work for the tribe.

"We are very excited by the opportunity the Tourism Information Center provides us to promote both Oklahoma and Chickasaw Nation destinations,” Gov. Bill Anoatubby said in a press release.

The Cherokee Nation operates a welcome center for the state.
