A federal jury convicted a man of mail fraud for trying to divert mail going to the Shingle Springs Band
of Miwok Indians.
Cesar Caballero, 41, was found guilty of three misdemeanor counts of mail obstruction.
He submitted change of address forms for the tribal headquarters and the tribal casino in order to divert mail to his home.
Caballero has been feuding with the tribe for years. He claims the current membership of the Shingle Springs Band does not descend from the historic tribe.
Separately, the tribe has sued Caballero in federal court for trying to register the "Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians" as a business name.
Caballero faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine when he is sentenced in November.
