Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe supports development at old mill site

The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe of Washington supports development and an old pulp mill site, an idea opposed by a sister tribe.

Chairman Ron Allen wants to turn the 75-acre property, which is owned by Rayonier Inc., into the Salish Village. Part of the site is on Y’innis, an ancient Klallam village.

“We think it’s still an opportunity,” Allen told The Peninsula Daily News. “The opportunity is still there.”

But the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe wants the site returned to its natural state. The tribe is working with the Department of Ecology and Rayonier on cleanup of the property.
