Judge awards small fee to law firm for Oneida Nation land claim

A law firm that worked on the Oneida Nation land claim was awarded $5,174, a fraction of the amount it was seeking.

Judge Lawrence Kahn said Bond, Schoeneck & King was entitled to about 10 percent of the final judgement in the case. The tribe only received $57,494 from two counties in New York.

The tribe filed a different land claim in 1974. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals effectively ended the case last year although an appeal is underway.
