Inquiry pending in death of five-year-old Native girl in Manitoba

An inquest into the death of a five-year-old Native girl in Manitoba probably won't begin until November, an attorney said.

Phoenix Sinclair was killed in June 2005. Her body was found on the Fisher River First Nation in March 2006.

Sinclair's mother, Samantha Kematch, and her common-law husband, Karl McKay, were each convicted of first degree murder. Both are serving life sentences.

The inquiry was delayed while McKay pursued an appeal. Further delays are expected in order to go through child welfare documents.
