US Attorney in New Mexico to hire special tribal prosecutor

The U.S. Attorney's Office in New Mexico is hiring a special prosecutor who will focus almost exclusively on domestic violence and sexual assault in Indian Country.

Through a pilot program, the Office of Violence Against Women is providing funding for the new position. David Adams, the tribal prosecutor at Laguna Pueblo, will be focusing on Indian Country crimes.

“I think a lot of people will be pleased to see this,” Corrine Sanchez of Tewa Women United told The Albuquerque Journal. “There is still such a huge lack of prosecution on the U.S. attorney’s side on sexual assaults.”
