The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina will hold an election for principal chief this summer.
Five candidates are running for the job. They are: incumbent Michell Hicks, Mary "Missy" Crowe, Patrick LambertGary R. Ledford and Juanita Plummer Wilson.
If Hicks wins, he will be the second person in tribal history to be elected to three terms, The Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
The primary takes place July 7. The general election is September 1.
