Crow Tribe issues disaster declaration due to major floods

The Crow Tribe of Montana has issued a disaster declaration for the entire reservation due to massive flooding.

The declaration was prompted by flooded homes and buildings, washed-out roads and continually rising water levels in rivers, creeks and canals. Several roads and highways on the reservation have been closed.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by this disaster," Chairman Cedric Black Eagle said. "We are working around the clock to ensure the safety of all residents of the Crow Reservation."

Photos posted by The Billings Gazette show several feet of flood water in parts of the reservation. The communities in Lodge Grass, Wyola, Crow Agency, St. Xavier and Pryor are among the hardest hit.

The paper also said the Northern Cheyenne Reservation and the Fort Belknap Reservation have been affected by flooding.
