Oneida Nation and Obama administration appeal land claim

The Oneida Nation and the Obama administration are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate the tribe's land claim.

The tribe sued the state of New York for 250,000 acres of stolen land. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the case last year, ruling that the tribe took too long to file.

The tribe and the Department of Justice each filed separate petitions with the Supreme Court on May 16. The Native American Rights Fund has posted the documents so far in US v. New York.

2nd Circuit Decision:
Oneida Nation v. Oneida County/Madison County (August 9, 2010)
