The
Upper Fruitland Chapter of the
Navajo Nation is hosting an Armed Forces Day celebration on Saturday.
Mike Bekis, a veteran, has been working on the event for two years. It started off as a tribute to family members who have served in the military but it has turned into a much bigger celebration.
"Little did I know this thing was going to spread," Bekis told The Farmington Daily Times.
As part of the event, veterans from the
Jicarilla Apache Nation will march to Upper Fruitland from the east. Veterans from the two Ute tribes in Colorado will march in from the north.
Navajo Nation veterans will arrive from the west while non-Indian and other representatives will come from the south.
