$40M bond package for Oklahoma Indian museum is dead

A $40 million bond package for the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum in Oklahoma has been declared dead.

The package became controversial after lawmakers questioned the price tag of the facility, which has already received $66.3 million in state funds. Republicans are also concerned how the facility will be run, a spokesperson for Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman told The Tulsa World.

“There is a tremendous investment out there, and the intention is not to walk away forever, but we do want to make sure we evaluate all of our options going forward,” the spokesperson said.

Gov. Mary Fallin (R) supported the bond package and wants the facility to be completed.
