Salish and Kootenai Tribes investigating shooting of grizzly
Tuesday, May 17, 2011
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana are investigating the shooting of a female grizzly bear.
A landowner shot the bear on Saturday. The animal was apparently after chickens.
"There is a huge increase in chicken production in the Mission Valley and the bears have keyed into unprotected chicken coops," Stacy Courville of the tribe's wildlife program told The Missoulian.
Last year, an adult bear and two cubs were captured on the reservation and sent to a zoo.
