$40M bond package for Oklahoma Indian museum revised

A $40 million bond package for the American Indian Cultural Center and Museum in Oklahoma has been revised.

Senate Bill 985 authorizes bond sales of $12 million one year, followed by bond sales of $8 million and $20 million. The bonds will only be issued if $13 million in matching funds are raised for the first round, followed by $9 million and $20 million in subsequent rounds.

The bill also states that bonds can only be used on building and capital improvements and it requires an audit of how the funds are spent. Lawmakers have been raising questions about the museum, which has already received $66.3 million in state funds.
