Marjorie Tahbone, an Inupiaq Eskimo and Kiowa woman from Alaska, won the Miss Indian World competition at the annual Gathering of Nations over the weekend.

Tahbone, 22, didn't think she was going to win. She garnered a “Most Talented” mention but was surprised when her name was called at the end of the contest.

“I can’t even describe it — It was so crazy," Tahbone told The Fairbanks Daily News Miner of the atmosphere at GON.

Tahbone is a student at University of Alaska Fairbanks.
