The
Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe of Washington has launched the
House of Seven Generations, its online museum.
The site will preserve the tribe's history and tradition through photographs, video and other items. The first exhibit documents the effort to gain federal recognition 30 years ago.
“Access to searchable images and information from anywhere in the world is a valuable tool for keeping tribal people connected to their history and culture,” Leanne Jenkins, the tribe's planning director and project coordinator, told The Peninsula Daily News.
The tribe received a $145,733 grant from the
Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency, to build the site.
