The
Yakama Nation of Washington expects to complete work on a $12 million detention facility in the fall of 2012.
The tribe received a grant from the
Department of Justice to build the 38,000 square-foot facility. It replaces one that closed in 2005 due to safety concerns.
The new jail will be overseen by a newly created tribal position. Kelly Rosenow, a veteran in law enforcement, was just hired as the first commissioner of public safety on the reservation.
