The
Navajo Nation Council has a new leader.
Johnny Naize was elected speaker by a vote of 25-9 on Tuesday. He will be the first leader of the 24-member council.
"We will work together the next two years," Naize said on the floor, according to a press release from the council. "I will rely heavily on the staff to help achieve our goals and objectives during my speakership.”
Tribal members approved a referendum that reduced the size of the council from 88 delegates to 24 delegates.
