Fires on Manitoba reserves have claimed at least 11 children in the last five years.
The most recent victim was a two-month-old girl who died in a fire on the St. Theresa Point Reserve on Sunday. Six children were home at the time -- an all too familiar situation in overcrowded homes.
"These houses are like tinderboxes," one lawmaker told The Winnipeg Free Press.
According to the
Manitoba Fire Commissioner, four percent of all fires in 2009 took place on reserves.
