Bill honoring the Hopi Code Talkers advances in Arizona Senate

A bill honoring 10 members of the Hopi Tribe who used their language to develop a code during World War II is advancing in the Arizona Senate.

The Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee unanimously endorsed SCR 1009 on Tuesday. The bill cites the "remarkable achievements" of the Hopi Code Talkers during the Pacific campaign of WWII.

"We feel that it is important that the state of Arizona and this great nation of ours know the history of what our people did for this country," Hopi Chairman Leroy Shingoitewa said, Cronkite News Service reported.
