Sen. Akaka announces members of Senate Indian Affairs Committee

Sen. Daniel Akaka
(D-Hawaii) announced the membership of the
Senate Indian Affairs Committee
in the 112th Congress.
Akaka will serve as chairman.
Sen. John Barrasso
(R-Wyoming) will serve as vice chairman.
Joining the pair on the Democratic side are:
Sen. Maria Cantwell
(D-Washington);
Sen. Kent Conrad
(D-North Dakota);
Sen. Al Franken
(D-Minnesota);
Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HawaiI);
Sen. Tim Johnson
(D-South Dakota);
Sen. Jon Tester
(D-Montana), and
Sen. Tom Udall
(D-New Mexico).
On the Republican side, the members are:
Sen. Mike Crapo
(R-Idaho);
Sen. John Hoeven
(R-North Dakota);
Sen. Mike Johanns
(R-Nebraska);
Sen. John McCain
(R-Arizona) and
Sen. Lisa Murkowski
(R-Alaska).
“Our native communities face problems that are serious, severe, and sometimes chronic,” Akaka said in a press release. “I intend to continue the long tradition of working together on this committee in a bipartisan manner to find solutions that will improve the lives and strengthen the futures of America’s native people. I look forward to working with Vice-Chairman Barrasso and all the committee members on these unique and complex issues.”
