Pauline Murillo, an elder of the
San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California, died on Friday. She was 76.
Murillo educated countless people about tribal culture. She also taught the Cahuilla and Serrano languages to new generations.
Last year, Murillo was the first person from southern California to be counted for the
U.S. Census.
