Members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana head to the polls today amid a dispute over the eligibility of some candidates.
Stacey Small, one of the candidates, says the election committee failed to conduct background checks. She claims one candidate has a prior felony conviction and should be removed from the ballot
A lawsuit filed by Small and other tribal members is pending in tribal court.
"We will have the election unless the court issues an order otherwise," tribal attorney LeAnne Montes told The Havre Daily News.
