"Osage County First Assistant District Attorney Jeff S. Jones is well suited and well qualified to succeed long-time District Attorney Larry Stuart, who serves a district covering Pawnee and Osage counties.
Jones, a member of the Osage Nation, has had a diverse career, including private practice, 18 years as a UPS driver and eight years as a state prosecutor, the last four of which as first assistant district attorney.
Jones knows the operation. During his tenure in the DA's office he has prosecuted the felony, misdemeanor, deprived (child) and traffic dockets. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with two business degrees and a 1999 graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law. If elected he has pledged to maintain the successes of the child support office and to aggressively prosecute drug crimes. Drug activity has become the district's most significant problem.
Jones is opposed by Republican House member Rex Duncan. Duncan has supported a number of extreme positions and pushed several other irrelevant issues during his years in the Legislature. Like Jones, he is a law-and-order candidate. Very few public officials running for office are not.
A district attorney is required to be open-minded and fair in his decisions - sometimes opting for unpopular choices or choices that require more than a sound bite of explanation. A district attorney should be on the side of truth. Jones, who lives in Skiatook, knows the territory. He has worked with the DA's staff."
