Cherokee Nation receives $1.3M in grants for law enforcement
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma has been awarded more than $1.3 million in grants from the Department of Justice.

The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service received 900,600 from the Community Oriented Policing Services program. The money will be used to increase patrols, buy new equipment, improve emergency response times, provide services to victims of domestic violence and improve the tribal justice system, The Tulsa World reported.

The Cherokee Nation Attorney General's Office received $450,000 from the Office on Violence Against Women. The money will be used to provide services to domestic violence victims, create an education outreach program and create a treatment program for offenders.
