The Seneca Nation donated $250,000 to the New York Republican Party.
The money will be used for state Senate races. It won't go to GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino, who says he will take a tough stance on tribal tobacco issues if elected.
"We feel the business climate in New York State is in terrible condition, and we trying help out as best we can," Richard Nephew, the chairman of the tribal council, told The Buffalo News. "We believe in supporting those candidates that we've made contributions to."
Nephew said the tribe chose Republican candidates because the Democratic party hasn't been responsive to tribal interests.
