Idaho Gov. Butch Otter (R) has withdrawn from a wolf management agreement with the Nez Perce Tribe.
Otter claims the Interior Department has failed to live up to its promises when the wolf was reintroduced in 1995. But he failed to inform the tribe of his decision to end the agreement.
”I didn’t contact Montana. I didn’t contact Wyoming. I didn’t contact Saskatchewan,“ Otter told Rocky Barker of The Idaho Statesman. ”We make these decisions in Idaho.“
Otter's decision leaves the tribe in an uncertain position. "The tribe is still ready to take those burdens on, but we need the resources," tribal council member Brooklyn Baptiste told the paper.
