The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced $100 million in community planning grants, including two in Indian Country.
Thunder Valley Community Development Corp received a $996,000 grant. The non-profit will work with the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota to develop a plan for sustainable development on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Another $525,000 grant went to Northwoods NiiJii Enterprise Community Inc.. The non-profit is a partnership with the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin and the Sokaogon Chippewa Community of Mole Lake and eight municipal governments in Wisconsin.
