The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says elected leaders of First Nations need to disclose their salaries to the public.
The group filed a public information request with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. At least 30 First Nations chiefs earned more than the $109,893 average salary of a premier in Canada, according to the data.
Some lawmakers have filed a bill to force the disclosure of more salary information.
