The Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council has received a $10 million grant to expand substance abuse programs.
The tribes started Montana-Wyoming Rocky Mountain Tribal Access to Recovery in 2007 with a $5 million grant. The new funds will enable the program to serve more people, including Native youth.
"The overall goal of the project is to increase positive client outcomes, especially abstinence from alcohol and drugs and at the same time increase tribal capacity to serve their own population," director Kathleen Masis told The Great Falls Tribune.
So far, the program has served 2,700 clients on 10 reservations in Montana and in Wyoming, as well as urban Indian programs.
