New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) signed a disaster declaration for Kewa Pueblo but tribal leaders and members say the state isn't doing enough to help them recover from a major hail storm.

Nearly every home in the traditional village of the pueblo suffered significant damage in the October 2 storm. About 20 families have been forced to evacuate due to mold and structural problems at their homes.

"I can't think of anyone who didn't get damage," Annette Chavez, whose home has been nearly destroyed, told The Santa Fa New Mexican.

Richardson's declaration frees up $250,000 but tribal leaders have estimated the damage at more than $1 million. The tribe has set up a Kewa Relief Fund at Wells Fargo bank and is accepting donations at the Kewa Pueblo Community Center.
