The Seneca Nation of New York plans to spend up to $1 million on mailers for the upcoming state election.
The mailers address treaties, health care, sovereignty and other issues. The main goal is to educate voters, a tribal member said.
"We’re fighting a lot of misinformation from our political opponents,” obert Odawi Porter told City Hall News. "We’re trying to counter that with a respectful and responsible information campaign.”
The tribe is specifically targeting voters in districts where lawmakers have pushed for the state to impose its tobacco tax on reservations.
