Roads, homes and farms at Kewa Pueblo in New Mexico suffered major damage over the weekend during a massive hail storm.
Tribal leaders say nearly every structure on the reservation has been damaged. At least 12 families have been forced out of their homes due to imminent danger.
“I’ve lived here all 60 years of my life and I haven't seen nothing like this," Acting Gov. Nelson Pacheco told KRQE-TV.
The tribe lacks emergency funds to address the crisis. Tribal leaders have asked Gov. Bill Richardson (D) for help but they haven't heard back yet.
“Maybe a million, I would say, because a lot of them are damaged,” Acting Lt. Governor Sammy Garcia said of the need on the reservation.
