The Tigua Tribe of Texas is moving to diversify its economy.
The tribe started Tigua Inc. to pursue economic development opportunities. The corporation hopes to land government contracts and promote entrepreneurship.
"We want to establish a continuity in business, grow the revenue streams outside the gaming," newly-hired John Baily told The El Paso Times. "Everything we grow goes back to the Tigua for empowerment, to help the Tigua members to be business entrepreneurs."
The tribe received a $1 million grant to build the Tigua Business Center, which will house Tigua Inc. and tribal members' businesses.
