The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa
and Chippewa Indians of Michigan seated three new council members on October 1, more than four months after voters first went to the polls.
George Antoine, Robert Kewaygoshkum and Jane Rohl survived a primary election and a general election. But the top vote-getter, Alvin Pedwaydon, was disqualified after a complaint.
"We are a young government, and with young government comes growth, and you have to evolve with it," Chairman Derek Bailey told The Traverse City Record-Eagle.
Desmond Berry, the chairman of the tribe's election board, said he wants to overhaul the tribe's voting process.
