First woman leader of Yavapai Prescott Tribe honored in Arizona

The Prescott Meals on Wheel named its dining room in honor of Viola Jimulla, the first woman to lead the Yavapai-Prescott Tribe of Arizona.

Jimulla was born in 1878. She served as chief from 1940 until her death in 1966.

"She did lead us in the right direction," granddaughter Darlene Ogo said at the dedication ceremony, The Prescott Daily Courier reported. "She helped pave the way to where we're living now."
