The House Natural Resources Committee, Subcommittee on Water and Power, held a hearing on Thursday on two tribal water bills.
H.R. 3061, the Pine River Indian Irrigation Project Act, addresses an irrigation system on the Southern Ute Reservation in Colorado. It provides a total of $14 million to address deficiencies in the system.
H.R. 5413, the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians Water Rights Settlement Act, settles the water rights of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians in California. The bill provides $50.2 million for a water system on the reservation but the Obama administration is balking at the cost.
