The Fort Peck Tribes of Montana broke ground on a $14 million detention facility.
The facility replaces a 51-year-old jail on the reservation.
It will house 102 prisoners, which will alleviate overcrowding in the old jail, which only has space for 22 inmates.
The Department of Justice awarded a $12.7 million grant for the project. The tribe chipped in another $1.4 million.
The facility is scheduled to open in April 2012.
